2021 Spring Calendar

We've posted a super tentative calendar for the spring. There are a lot of moving pieces to consider:

1.) Will we even have racing?
With cases spiking (again), who knows what states and counties will do.

2.) Can our teams race?
Again, it isn't super clear what the club sports departments at our schools will allow. If teams can't travel or race, we can't really host an omnium.

3.) Can I just race by myself?
Probably. But, you might want to be careful wearing your school kit. Check with your team on that.

4.) What about nationals?
USAC is planning on nationals in Augusta, GA in May. We'll be super lax on qualifications, and we're working to get approval to use time trials and hill climbs to qualify. It might be something where we use the races identified and if you race them (for your team or not) we'll count it as a start.

Weird times ahead! Be patient!

2020 Mountain Bike Season Canceled

I was hoping I'd be able to share positive news with you all about the upcoming mountain bike season. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.
Arizona leads the world in outbreaks:

And while the increase in cases may have slowed, we're still seeing 3,500-4,000+ cases a day, with no sign of a decrease. With these trends, I cannot, in good faith, organize a conference retreat and a mountain season that encourages travel across our region. We owe it to our family, friends, and our communities to do everything we can to reduce spreading the virus.

Is 'cross coming? I'm not sure. Our cyclocross races are smaller and geographically limited, so we're looking at some options like a track and field style pentathlon at races. But, this is only if our state gets cases under control. I'll have a decision on CX in late September.

In the meantime, we'll be hosting some virtual competitions in the fall for the coolest trick, best fail, and best kit design. I'll also share some ideas later that the UA is doing to keep members engaged.
Please, stay safe and healthy.

2020 Road Cancelled

As you probably have seen across the media, the 2020 spring cycling season has been canceled through road nationals in May. It's a bummer, but it is small in the grand scheme of things occurring in the world at this time.

We'll hopefully be back for the fall season- we'll keep you posted! Stay safe and healthy!
