SWCCC Crit championship now April 27th

Hello all -

The SWCCC crit championship will be April 27th, not January 26th.  This was a misunderstanding on my part - I'm very sorry.  The January 26th date will be a collegiate race day.  Both races will still be co-promoted by NAU.

Road schedule updated

Hello all -

Hopefully you are enjoying your semester break!

I have posted the updated road schedule for 2013 on the Schedule page.  And no, you are not seeing things; the Crit championship will occur at the first race of the season.  This has also happened in the past.  It just works out that way sometime because of the two-year hosting cycle (for each team) and the road race scheduling process.  As you may remember, UNM hosted the championship crit the last two years.  NAU will be co-hosting it this year, and next.

Thanks to the efforts of Joey at the UA, and to Ted/Barb/Gary at Summit Velo, collegiate time trial categories have been added to the Sunday February 3rd Flap Jacks Time Trial.  Collegiate riders will pay a discounted (pre-registered) fee of $15 and do the 20k event.  Collegiate A/B/C categories will be offered for both men and women.  Those racers who will be traveling to UA for the UA crit on February 2nd will then be able to make it a collegiate race weekend.

That's all for now.  I'll post links when they become available (a few are available now).

Collegiate MTB Nationals this weekend!

Good luck to all the racers and a big thanks to all the volunteers and supporters!

Cyclocross!

Okay, now that's it just time for Nationals, it's also time for Cyclocross season! Due to the generosity of the promoters in both AZ and NM, collegiate categories will be offered at many of their races (but not all, so please check - especially the weekend of MTB Nationals). Men A-C and Women A-C will be racing with their respective USAC CX categories. Although some of the dates overlap, that is going to be okay for this season. CX points will be calculated no matter what state you earn them in. The SW Conference finals, however, will be in NM. I will post the schedule on the calendar page.

Congrats to all for another great mtb season!

It was great seeing you all in Gallup this weekend!  We had great representation from NAU, UNM, and UA.

The results from the race and the final points are posted.  Photos will be up soon.

Congrats to the omnium winners for 2012 (all D1):
              A Men: David Timmons, NAU
              A Women: Lindsay Dye, NAU
              B Men: Alex Winkler, NAU
              C Men: Christopher Bozorth, NAU
              Team: Northern Arizona University
              Nationals Qualifying Team: NAU

Good luck to all of the riders who will be attending Nationals!

I hope to see a lot of you at CX this fall/winter (separate posting) and for the road season next spring.

BTS results and points take 3 and CX info

More corrections to the BTS results (Cat C men) and the subsequent points.  Hopefully this will be it!:-)

As far as the CX season goes, right now we are looking at parallel seasons in AZ and NM, with certain races in the AZ and NM USAC CX series having and counting collegiate points as CX Nationals qualifiers.  For this year at least, the riders don't have to travel between NM and AZ to get cyclocross experience - this will change in 2013.  The first races will be as soon as next weekend (Ot 6/7).  I will have the info ASAP.

Just a word to cyclocross riders - since you will be racing in collegiate races alongside of USAC CX racers, please please please do the promoters/registrars a favor and tell them that you are racing collegiate when you sign up and pick up your number.  That way they can make sure that the collegiate riders will be scored separately in the results.  Thanks!

BTS Corrections and CX is coming!

All - I have received a number of emails from you about incorrect results from the Men's B's and Men's C's from the BTS race.  Several of you indicated that you spoke to the officials at the race, but the results that got posted did not reflect the corrections.  You all seemed to agree on the correct placings, so I have revised the B's and C's.  I have also revised the points based on the corrected results.  If things still seem wonky, please let me know ASAP (I know you will!) and we can re-visit them again before the race this weekend.

Just a reminder that the races this weekend will be the SWCCC championship for mountain bikes!  I will be calculating final points on-site, so please don't leave right away before I can distribute medals and trophies, thanks!

Collegiate CX is coming soon to NM!  The wonderful promoters of the NM CX series are again putting collegiate categories in their upcoming races (thanks to Brent and Mark of UNM!).  All of the designated races will count towards the SW CX championship omnium.  For those who are interested in attending the National Collegiate Championship for CX in early 2013, you will need to be a Category A (or a USAC Category 3 for CX), so it is the perfect opportunity to get additional CX race experience.  If any of the AZ schools can convince an AZ CX promoter to add a collegiate category, please let me know and we will put it on the CX schedule.  The SW CX championship race date will be determined shortly.  I should have a flyer for the entire NM series up in the next day or so.

BTS Results and Points

The BTS results are up on the Calendar page and the updated points to date (includes both races) are on the Points page.

Let me know if you have any questions/comments, thanks!

Horny Toad Hustle results posted

The results are up on the Calendar page.

Thanks to all who attended yesterday's race - we probably had the biggest turnout for that race in years - including teams from NAU, UA, UNM, and NMSU.  Congrats to all!  Thanks to Dave Haliburton for promoting the race again this year.

I'm sorry that I did not get to the race earlier - it was one of those days when my car tire was flat in the morning at the hotel.  I'm especially sorry that I did not get to say hello/meet some of you and go to the awards ceremony - I transported a rider to urgent care (sorry Alex!) and missed some of the race.  Hopefully I will see you all in Gallup in a few weeks!

I still have not seen the Back to School results.  If I haven't received them by mid-week, I will just go ahead and calculate the points with the HTH results and the limited BTS results that I have.

BTS results and Las Cruces this weekend

Just a quick note - I am still waiting on the Back to School special results to post them - I should have them shortly.  At the very least, I am expecting the names of the Cat A men's and women's winners so that they can get their omnium leader jerseys to wear for Sunday's race!

See you all in Las Cruces!

Back to School Race this weekend AND gravity requirements for Nationals

The first race of the season is this coming Sunday, the Back to School Special, held just outside of Albuquerque by the UNM Lobos!  Check the calendar for links, including the all-important registration deadline!

And yes, here they are, for all of you who have been asking...the gravity requirements for Nationals.  Since the SW does not have a gravity season, new requirements are in place for 2012 for those wanting to apply to attend Nationals for the gravity events.  These requirements bring the SW in line with other conferences who also do not have a gravity season. (Please see the "Nationals" tab for the non-SW requirements if you are interested.  The justification for implementing our new requirements can be found in (l) in red).

The requirements are:

two cat 1 DH races for DH, or two cat 1 DS/4X races for DS
(of course these can also be Collegiate A gravity events)

These qualifying races do not have to be in 2012; then can be in the past within a reasonable period of time (ie 2-3 years ago maximum)

These requirements are to ensure primarily that riders are experienced and safe, especially for these events.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Omnium jerseys - take a look!

Thanks to the generosity of the people at USAC, this mountain bike season we will have Omnium leader jerseys for the category A men and A women.  The omnium leader for the A men and the A women will be able to wear the omnium leader jersey at the next race (which of course means if you are the omnium leader one week and not the next, you are expected to show up the next week with a clean jersey to pass it on to the new leader.  The omnium winners for the season will get to keep the jersey.

To get a peek at the jerseys, please take a look at this design.  This was the final design - they are kind of a turquoise color (each conference has a different color background).  The jerseys arrived here the other day and they look great!

Before you ask... yes, there will be one overall jersey for the A men and one for the women.  It doesn't matter if you are a member of a D1 or D2 school for the purposes of earning the jersey.

Yes, there will be some for road season also.

And no, unfortunately there will not be any for the Bs and Cs at this point, so trophies will still be awarded.  Maybe next year?  Or perhaps we can use part of the conference funding next year to purchase additional jerseys for the Bs and Cs, or produce our own for those categories.  We shall see.

This is kind of a "trial run," so please let me know how you like this idea!

Thanks!

Links to flyers are up!

The links to the three race flyers are now available on the calendar page.  Please pay close attention to the registration deadlines so that you don't miss out!

With the absence of the Dust Devil race this season, the Squash Blossom Classic will be the SW mountain bike Championship (September 29th).  In 2013, we will start the new rotation for the championships (of course depending on what races are promoted by member clubs!)

I will be in attendance at Horny Toad and Squash Blossom; unfortunately I have another commitment on 9/9 that I could not move after the race date changed.  Sorry!

I am looking forward to this season - hopefully you all are also!  Please let me know if you have any questions/issues/concerns!

MTB season date changes

Hello all -

The date for the Back to School Special has changed from September 8th to September 9th.  The High Desert Screamer has changed from September 22nd to September 29th.

There is a 12-hour race in Flagstaff on September 8th that will include collegiate categories (in process now), but it will not count for points.  The link to the web site is: http://bearjawgroove.com/.

As soon as I receive links to the other flyers, I will be posting them.

Collegiate Natls and Fall 2012 MTB season

Congrats to Alejandro Gomez of NMSU, who followed up his strong performances at the collegiate races with good performances at Collegiate Nationals.

I have posted what I know of the fall MTB schedule on the Calendar page.  Please let me know if you have any updates.

Have a great summer!

And a belated congrats to Kalvin Davis of UNM

for finishing 8th in the recent inaugural Collegiate BMX National Champonships held in Chula Vista CA. Kalvin won all three rounds in the first set of motos, awesome! His efforts also managed to get UNM to finish 5th out of 7 teams, despite being the sole rider from his team this year at the event.

The story (and a photo of Kalvin) can be found at: http://www.usacycling.org/lindsey-wilson-tops-at-inaugural-collegiate-bmx-nationals.htm

Congrats Kalvin!!!!!

Congrats to Omnium winners and Natls qualifiers

Congrats to team omnium winners NAU (Div 1) and NMSU (Div 2)! The individual omnium winners were: Men A Div 2 men: Alejandro Gomez (NMSU) and Men A Div 1 men: Nathan Franklin (NAU); Men B Div 1 men: Triston Mosbacher (UNM); Men C Div 1 men: David Roppel (ASU) and Div 2 men: Chris Goen (NMSU); Women A Div 1: Laura Zschaechner (UNM); and Women B Div 1: Erin Osborne (NAU). You all should be receiving your awards shortly in the mail.

NAU and NMSU won the team competition for Nationals qualification, but only a few riders qualified from the SW by meeting the race requirements. Those qualified are: Men A Div 2 - Alejandro Gomez (NMSU); Men A Div 1 - Nathan Franklin (NAU) and Scott Countryman (NAU); and Women A Div 1 - Laura Zschaechner (UNM). Congrats! I have authorized you to register for Nationals via the USAC site.

Thanks again to all the racers, coaches, promoters, team members and other support staff who have produced another great spring road season. :-)

Never mind - Tierra del Sol cancelled altogether

Sorry...ignore (most of) the last post... Tierra del Sol has been cancelled in its entirety....thanks Brent for staying on top of it and letting me know.

So we really are done this time. In the next day or so I'll post a list of the teams & individuals who are eligible for Road Nationals.

Nancy

Tierra del Sol will not have collegiate categories

All -

Despite the best efforts of Brent and Mark, the promoters of Tierra del Sol this weekend (Saturday) decided not to add collegiate categories into their road race this weekend.

Sorry. So in essence the road season is done. I will be mailing out the trophies in the next week or so.

Although I can't technically count the points since there are no collegiate categories, for those of you who still want to do TDS, I can count it as a legitimate start for those of you whom are As, similar to what I did last year at the Tucson Bike Classic. I know it's short notice of the "cancellation" (ie no collegiate categories) and some of you are probably registered, so it's the best I can do to try to make it "right" in some sense without giving everyone points.

Again, I apologize. i know there have been a few cancellations this season, and for the most part it has been out of everyone's hands. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it a successful season despite these setbacks. You all are great!

Updated points up & Tierra del Sol

All -

It was great seeing you all this weekend, including some new faces. Thanks for racing & congrats to all of the criterium champions!

The points have been updated to reflect the Adoption Exchange results.

I'm waiting on the Tierra del Sol flyer; I'll post it as soon as I receive it.

Thanks all!

Sun Devil Criterium cancelled

All -

Due to various issues, the Sun Devil Criterium on 4/15 at ASU has been cancelled.

I have not yet seen any info on the Tierra del Sol race in NM on 4/14. I checked the USAC event list this morning, and it has not been listed as permitted or pending yet (which may not mean anything). As far as I know, it is still a go.

So that means this weekend will be the last criterium (and the championships, no less) of the 2012 road season at the Adoption Exchange races (which also include a RR and a TT).

Hope to see you all there!

SW Crit Championship

All -

As planned, the SW Criterium Championship will be held in the Albuquerque area. With the cancellation of the UNM race weekend (this past weekend), the championship has been moved to the criterium that is part of the Adoption Exchange weekend (March 31-April 1st; the criterium is April 1st).

Please be aware that the fact that the Adoption Exchange flyer does not list the criterium as the championship, but it IS the championship. Big thanks go to the Adoption Exchange promoters and UNM for providing another weekend of collegiate racing. (link is on the calendar page).

Also, I will be updating the points once again from the TriFecta Omnium for the Collegiate A Men, as Alejandro Gomez was missed in the criterium results.

Thanks all!

Updated points now up...

I don't know what was going on with Google Docs for the last few days, but it seems to be working now.

Also, I am trying to confirm that the crit at the Adoption Exchange weekend will be the SWCCC criterium championship. I will keep you posted ASAP.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Congrats to all the racers at the TriFecta Omnium

All -

Congrats to all the racers at the Trifecta Omnium this past weekend! It was great seeing you all out there.

I definitely could have wished for better weather on Saturday though. :-)

The results and the updated points are up.

For those of you in Men's Cs who have looked at the RR & Omnium results from Sunday, according to what I scored and what you all were talking about at the top of the hill, the RR (and consequently the omnium) results are not correct. I have emailed the promoter with my score sheet and asked for corrections to be made. On this site, I have posted the correct results. Once I get confirmation about any changes, I will let you know also.

Thanks again!

Nancy

PS Google Docs is not letting me upload anything right now, so I'll try again later - sorry!

Registration for the Trifecta Omnium ends tonight!

at 11:59 pm,. although I think you can register tomorrow by also paying a late fee. See the calendar page for the link.

Sunday's Hillsboro RR is the SW Road Race Championship (double points!)

Hope to see you all there!

It was great seeing a lot of you at the Tucson Bike Classic this past weekend!

Race Schedule Changes

It's the season for race schedule changes...

The ASU Crit scheduled for 2/19 in Tempe has been postponed. It will now (tentatively) be on Sunday, April 15th. More details TBA.

The RR at UNM on March 17 has been cancelled. UNM will instead be co-promoting one of the other NM races, either the Tierra Del Sol race or the Adoption Exchange weekend.

The SWCCC conference championship criterium will most likely be at the Adoption Exchange criterium on Sunday 4/1. Confirmation details TBD.

The flyer and link for the TriFecta Omnium on Las Cruces/Hillsboro is available on the schedule page. The Hillsboro RR is the SWCCC championship road race again this year.

Thanks,
N

Bike Haus/NAU and UA Crit results are up

on the calendar page!

Thanks to all who travelled to Phoenix for the Bike Haus/NAU crit last weekend! I haven't heard any good (or bad) stories yet, except about the Cat 5 race.

I have not yet seen a flyer for the February 19th ASU race yet.

The points will be up as soon as I can input the prime points...I may post them without, and then adjust them afterwards.

The 2012 Road Nationals Allocations are available... a link to the allocations is on the Natls Qualification page (the link also includes the MTB allocations), but basically, D1 men RR = 14 & D1 men crit = 10; D2 men RR = 7; D2 men crit = 5 (same for women).

Hope to see you all in a few weeks!

Bike Haus (NAU) crit on Saturday!

Hello all -

This Saturday is the Bike Haus crit in Phoenix, co-hosted by NAU! The link on the Calendar page is apparently broken, so here is the best way to get the info: www.azcycling.com, on the righjt hand side of the page it says "Bike Haus crit."

I apologize for not being able to post the link here, but I am at a conference and my ipad can't handle the cut & paste for some reason, and my netbook is not cooperating either (sounds like the way this week has gone).

Also, a big thank you to the University of Arizona for putting on their crit last weekend. We had the UA, NAU, ASU, UNM, Purdue and Johns Hopkins all represented. I'll have the points up ASAP (I get back late Sunday). The results for all of the UA races are also at www.azcycling.com, under the "Results" tab. Again, I will be putting them on the web as soon as I get back.

I am answering emails /upgrade requests as soon as I get them; I really can't answer the phone very quickly but I have my email on almost all the time while I am here.

Sorry that I will not be able to see you all this weekend! Have fun and be safe!

UA Crit this weekend!

The link to the crit is: http://www.uacycling.org/uacrit.html Online registration ends at 9:59pm MST on Thursday, but on sire registration will be available also.

I know I've brought this up before, but here it is in black and white from the 2012 rulebook:

7H1. Riders may only enter Races open to the collegiate category shown on their license for the discipline in question. [(i) If the Race has not yet commenced, a prohibition on the Rider starting the Race; (ii) if the race has commenced, disqualification of the Rider from the Race and forfeiture of Rider points and places at the Race]

So please please request your upgrades and/or check your licenses NOW - save yourselves and the registration people, the officials and yours truly from having to sort this out before/during/after the race!

Thank you!

CX Nationals - 1/8/2012

Congrats to Andrew Templeton of UNM who finished 31st at the CX National Championships in WI today!
